This is a combo of knits that I wear pretty frequently. I put it on my dog so I could photograph it from a couple of angles. Plus, he’s so cute in the photos and he genuinely loves to try on new things. What a personality. I included one of me with Willie wearing the Purl Ridge Scarf, a free knitting pattern from WestKnits. I find that I like the Purl Ridge Scarf layered over the basic cowl. The cowl is 100% acrylic bulky yarn from Lion, and the Purl Ridge is made of Paton’s 100% wool. I tried the Purl Ridge using a MadelineTosh merino style yarn and it just flopped over. It didn’t hold it’s shape at all. With the 100% wool, it really holds the shape beautifully. The designer does call for a heavy worsted weight yarn, so I understand now why that is so important. It is pretty amazing what difference yarns make in the patterns. So, reading the patterns very carefully is critical for many reasons. I’d love to get a Madeline Tosh non Merino and see what happens. Her colorways are my favorite.
